Academics at Keele University are to spend £700,000 restoring and upgrading their historic observatory. As well as adding new equipment, the project aims to turn the site into a visitors' attraction promoting astronomy to students and the local community. The building is also used by Keele's Astrophysics Group, which - along with colleagues at other universities - recently announced that they had discovered three new planets 850 light years from Earth.
