Greenwich University has appointed Joanne Finkelstein, formerly at Victoria University in Melbourne, Australia, to the post of head of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences.

David Clarke, Bristol University pro vice-chancellor and professor of law, has been appointed to the new role of deputy vice-chancellor of the university.

Kay Davies and Christopher Fairburn from Oxford University and Peter Rigby, chief executive of the Institute of Cancer Research, have been appointed to the Wellcome Trust's board of governors. They take up their posts in January.

The Royal Academy of Music has appointed its 15th principal, Jonathan Freeman-Attwood. He will take up his post from September 2008 and succeeds Sir Curtis Price.

Jonathan Michie is to be appointed to the joint positions of director of the department for continuing education and president of Kellogg College at Oxford University. He will replace Geoffrey Thomas who retires from the joint post this month. Professor Michie's appointment will take effect from April 1.
