Opposition to Greenwich University's moving into the Royal Naval College has swayed between the anodyne and the aggressive.
Country Life, July 31, 1997: "Let the government seize the opportunity to retain the buildings in state use, either as a defence college or, if not 00that, then for state functions."
Private Eye, Aug 7, 1998, Nooks and Corners column: "The University of Greenwich used to be the South East London Polytechnic (sic) - one of those second-rate institutions dumbed up by Margaret Thatcher...
"Few - least of all members of staff - seem to think this 'university' is a suitable occupant of the Royal Naval College."
