The first six winners of the Foresight Clear Zones Awards have been announced by transport minister Glenda Jackson. The awards aim to encourage business, academic and industrial scientists and local government to work together to improve the environment and economy of urban areas. The winners include: Travel West Midland and Centro for bus transport improvement in Birmingham; Bristol's Elgar traffic and air pollution management scheme; Coventry's electric cars trial with Peugeot, Powergen and Centrica; and a virtual road tolling experiment in Leicester.
