Claude Allegre lost his job as France's minister for education, research and technology in a government reshuffle on Monday. He has been replaced as education minister by veteran socialist politician Jack Lang. Roger-Gerard Schwartzenberg takes over as minister for research. Mr Allegre's position became untenable after his relations with the striking teaching unions deteriorated.
