Phoenix rises

The University of Phoenix will soon have a greater Canadian presence. The for-profit univ-ersity recently received a conditional permit to open a facility in Alberta. With more than 135 campuses in the United States, Phoenix has only one Canadian facility, located in Vancouver. Despite organised opposition, the specialised university is keen to make further inroads. It has applied to open a facility in Ontario, where the government is allowing private universities to exist alongside the public system.
