Physicists get warm as info store doubles

October 16, 1998

Japanese physicists have discovered a material that could eventually be used to double the amount of information stored on a computer disc. The material displays colossal magneto-resistance - its electrical resistance plummets in a magnetic field - at room temperature. This means it could be used to double capacity without expensive refrigeration.
