President Bush has signed a bill to put an extra £5.7 billion into financial help for poor students. The College Cost Reduction and Access Act of 2007 will put the money into Pell grants, which are given to students from the lowest-income families. The maximum award will increase from £2,155 to £2,700 by 2012.
