The new arts and humanities research board is to win almost Pounds 3 million in the coming year from the Scottish and Welsh higher education funding councils. Both funding councils have now confirmed that they will support the board, set up last October by the Higher Education Funding Council for England in association with the British Academy. The Scottish Higher Education Funding Council expects to provide around Pounds 2 million, which will be calculated as a proportion of funds for the United Kingdom as a whole. It has committed annual funding until 2003-2004. The WHEFC is setting aside Pounds 970,000 in 1999-2000.
