The Data Protection Registrar's Office is intending to probe the relationship between the Higher Education Statistics Agency and Experian, which plans to run a commercial service to check whether job applicants are lying about their qualifications.
It wants to explore the extent to which a student enrolling on a degree course has given permission for the later commercial use of information on the outcome of his or her studies.
