Sunderland University has announced an honorary fellowship for Sunderland and Republic of Ireland footballer Niall Quinn. The university said that the 35-year-old had been a great role model for youngsters. Sunderland AFC's Stadium of Light is just a 15-minute walk from the university, so the soccer star won't be late for lectures. Mr Quinn, who was bought by Sunderland in 1996 for £1.3 million, said: "To receive a fellowship from the university is as proud a recognition as I have received in my life and one I shall treasure greatly."
