REF 2021: History

Kent, Leicester and University of East Anglia lead the quality rankings in history as Oxford and Cambridge exit top 10

The University of Kent tops our GPA rankings for history based on submissions from 35 FTE researchers, who delivered an average score of 3.64. Just behind in second place is the University of Leicester, followed by the University of East Anglia. None of the top three featured in the top 20 in 2014, with Kent rising from 34th place to head the standing this year.

The University of Oxford is ranked 17th on research quality but heads history in terms of research power (it submitted 173 FTE historians), followed by the University of Cambridge (136 FTE researchers), whose GPA ranking is 29th, down from 10th in 2014.

At a national level the History UoA has a GPA of 3.21, with 43 per cent of its submission rated 4*. 2360.21 FTE staff were submitted to this UoA.
