Senior Staff Mobility - A new impulse in view of the start of the new Framework Programme
"In planning the restructuring, I took many factors into account, important among those being the background, expertise and qualification of Directors. Another consideration was the Directors' length of time in office, in line with the new Commission policy on mobility. Directors who had about five years in their position have been moved", JRC Director General Barry McSweeney said in his message announcing a major restructuring of the JRC senior management.
The following changes come into effect on 1 November 2002:
- Manfred Grasserbauer, current Director of the Institute for Reference Materials and Measurements, Geel, moves to the position of Director of the Institute of Environment and Sustainability, Ispra.
- Jean-Marie Martin, current Director of the Institute of Environment and Sustainability, Ispra, becomes Principal Advisor to the Director General on Science and Technology with particular emphasis on increasing the linkages with European scientific organisations. He will be based in Ispra.
- Alejandro Herrero, current Director of Science Strategy, based in Brussels, will become Director of the Institute for Reference Materials and Measurements, Geel.
- David Wilkinson, current Director of the Institute for the Protection and Security of the Citizen, moves to Brussels as Director of Science Strategy.
- Jean-Marie Cadiou, current Director of the Institute for Prospective Technological Studies, Seville, moves to the position of Directorof the Institute for the Protection and Security of the Citizen, Ispra.
In all cases the key consideration for the transfer was that the incoming Director should have the required scientific and management experience for the position. With the commencement of the 6th Framework Programme, the restructured JRC management team is fully committed to providing strong leadership and direction within a refocused JRC.
