Rice strain

The International Rice Research Institute has slashed its staff by about 40 per cent as a result of a funding crisis, it is claimed. Researchers at De Montfort University's Norman Borlaug Institute for Plant Science Research, which is collaborating with the IRRI in the Philippines to produce a 25 per cent more productive rice plant, said its work would go on.
