A new insect species has been discovered on eBay by a researcher at the Rothamsted Research Institute. Richard Harrington acquired the fossilised insect, an aphid, for £20 from an eBay vendor in Lithuania. After examining the specimen, which is encased in amber approximately the size of a Smartie, he sent it to a world expert in Copenhagen who judged it to be an unknown species of the Mindarus genus, and named it Mindarus harringtoni after Dr Harrington.
