The president of the British Academy, Onora O'Neill, has been elected an honorary fellow of the Royal Society. Baroness O'Neill, a professor of philosophy at Cambridge University, is one of only a very few scholars from the humanities and social sciences to be given the honour. She was elected in recognition of her outstanding contribution to philosophy and her analyses of ethical issues in science, particularly in the biosciences.
