Sainsbury moves to revamp engineering

Science minister Lord Sainsbury is to meet representatives of engineering departments, business and industry next week to discuss revamping the engineering profession and Engineering Council.

The conference will discuss the Hawley Group's report Making the Best of Valuable Talent published at the end of last year.

One of its suggestions was to concentrate engineering teaching in a group of designated technical universities so that fewer universities have to buy expensive equipment.
