The Scottish Parliament has been urged to consider seeking a royal charter for the University of the Highlands and Islands amid growing concern that it has not yet been designated a higher education institution.
The parliament was to debate last night whether the Scottish Executive still backed the UHI project, what criteria it must meet for the university title and the likely timescale.
