Single-parent student nurses in Scotland will receive a childcare allowance from September. Health minister Malcolm Chisholm said they would be eligible for up to £1,025 a year for formal childcare costs. Speaking at the Royal College of Nursing Scotland's conference in Edinburgh, he also promised to introduce alternative routes into pre-registration nursing for 200 healthcare support workers.
