Formal status as a designated higher education institute, financed by the Scottish Funding Council, has been attained by the Scottish Agricultural College. The SAC was the last remaining "central institution" directly funded by the Scottish Government via the Rural Affairs Department to provide tertiary education. From August it will officially become a "fundable body" and a full member of Universities Scotland.
