Ian Gibson, former chairman of the Commons Science and Technology Committee, this week called for the abolition of degree classifications.
In a lecture at Anglia Ruskin University, the Labour MP said:
"The best thing that could happen in UK universities is to get rid of the first-class, second-class differentiation." He criticised the lack of scientists in the Government and the lack of understanding of scientific evidence.
