Social skills

March 31, 2000

Postgraduate social science students can brush up their methodological skills online thanks to a collaboration between the Economic and Social Research Council and the Data Archive.

TRaMSS (Training Resources and Materials for Social Scientists) is a website funded by the ESRC's Analysis of Large and Complex Data programme that will provide a range of downloadable software.

Kevin Schurer, director of the Data Archive, said the initiative would help to address skill shortages. "Statistical skills have become the province of the so-called expert. We want to provide better training so that people aren't afraid to tackle the tasks themselves."
