Software to predict share values

May 10, 2002

Dundee University applied computing student Luke Wilson has developed software that will predict whether the value of shares will go up or down.

Mr Wilson takes share prices from the London Stock Exchange and calculates their future values by using a variety of equations and the price history, advising investors whether to buy or sell.

Mr Wilson's software, developed as a senior honours project, is the first program of its kind to be available on the internet.

Similar programs are available from retailers and can be costly, while the Dundee software operates as a normal web page, allowing users to calculate their share values free within minutes.

Stockbrokers Gerrards advised Mr Wilson to ensure that the programming functions were relevant to evaluating stock price.

"I have money invested in the stock market myself and wanted to discover how to make the most profit from it," Mr Wilson said. "Stock price analysis is also a career I would like to pursue so developing this system is good experience."
