Congratulations Eric Priest, a solar physicist at the University of St Andrews. Professor Priest was named this week as the winner of the highest honour of the American Astronomical Society, the Hale prize.
It is rare for the Hale prize to go to a non-US citizen. The society said it singled out Professor Priest for "his seminal contributions to investigations of the role of the magnetic field in solar activity and for his tireless advocacy of solar physics in all corners of the world". He will receive the prize at the society's annual meeting in June.
