* Staff at South Bank University this week marched on Parliament to protest at the poor treatment meted out to new universities.
They lobbied MPs about grievances including the underfunding of new universities, student debt and the way institutions are penalised if their students drop out.
The university's governing board last week approved an action plan to bring South Bank out of special measures put in place after it failed to recruit enough students. Unpopular courses can now be closed, possibly leading to job losses.
