Almost half of students will work part time in the next academic year, earning a total of £2.3 billion, according to the Royal Bank of Scotland's Student Living Index 2006.
Cardiff University emerges as the most cost-effective place to study, while Cambridge University is least cost-effective. The research is based on 2,648 undergraduates from 26 university towns across the UK.
