Sussex University has received a £1.5 million windfall after the Court of Appeal ruled in its favour over a tax case dating back to 1973. Sussex had submitted a claim to recover VAT on overheads before a time limit was introduced in 1997, but Customs and Excise said it had failed to claim when it incurred the VAT.
