Five new research institutes have been launched at Teesside University. Graham Henderson, its vice-chancellor, promised that the additions would provide a "clearer focus" for research development at the university and a "platform upon which to build Teesside's growing reputation for research excellence". The institutes are: digital futures; health and social care; design, culture and the arts; social futures; and technology futures. Their launch on 16 September coincided with the publication of the first edition of Teesside's annual research report.
