Teesside Waps ahead

May 26, 2000

The University of Teesside is harnessing wireless application protocol technology to widen access to information about its services. The university, one of a handful to gain an "excellent" teaching rating from the Higher Education Funding Council for England, believes it is the first higher education institution to provide information over Wap to a growing number of mobile phone users.

Derek Fraser, vice-chancellor of Teesside, said that undergraduate course details were available now and that the service would expand to cover postgraduate opportunities and comprehensive contact information.
