(Photograph) - Biology has inspired fashion designer Helen Storey for her latest collection, Primitive Streak. Inspired by the first 1,000 hours of an embryo, from the moment of fertilisation to the 41st day of existence, the work involved close collaboration with scientists including Ms Storey's younger sister Kate, a developmental biologist at Oxford University. Helen and Kate hope that through fashion, they can explain the key stages of embryo development in an innovative and accessible way.
Each outfit expresses a specific stage in embryonic development. The project was backed by the Wellcome Trust and the collection is being exhibited this week at the Institute of Contemporary Arts, which is holding a conference tomorrow bringing together fashion designer and scientists.
