Just weeks before Imperial College London was due to unveil its new identity - no comma between "College" and "London" in its name and the replacement of the cat-with-a-furball-sounding ic.ac.uk domain name with imperial.ac.uk - it announces a plan to merge with University College London.
Readers are welcome to suggest a new name for the merged institution - it might prevent a fortune being spent from the public purse on marketing firms.
