According to taste he is either a fearless defender of the public good or the malevolent politically motivated spearhead of a right-wing conspiracy.
Independent counsel Kenneth Starr may owe something of his spectacular ability to polarise opinion to the fact that, like his adversary Bill Clinton, he attended three universities: George Washington University, Washington DC; Brown University, Rhode Island; and Duke University, North Carolina. And last year he accepted and then refused a post running the bar school at Pepperdine University in California.
