Almost half of parents fail to save money for their children's university education, according to research by the Association of Investment Trust Companies. The research found that while a quarter of would-be students expected their parents to foot the bill, 40 per cent of parents did not save. It also found that would-be students estimate that their debt on graduation will be £7,208 - much less than expert predictions of £13,500.
