No contest for the unluckiest participant at the Montreal conference - the antipodean historian whose 30-hour journey to Canada became a 52-hour calvary following a series of airline glitches. Finally arriving almost a day later than planned, he was promptly struck down by a disabling migraine and was unable to give his paper.
