Union leaders have urged the government to back international standards adopted by Unesco that are designed to protect the terms and conditions of employment for academics. The Association of University Teachers wants UK ministers to reconsider their view on Unesco's recommendation, on which they reserved their position arguing the issue was the responsibility of individual member states and institutions.
