A report by the Institute for Public Policy Research says that the government's planned University for Industry will succeed only if local course and access structures are flexible enough to respond quickly to new training needs. IT infrastructures must also be developed to support distance learners by using computer technology. The report on the pilot UfI project run in Sunderland says the university and City of Sunderland College played a major role alongside local businesses and private training providers in the ten month-long pilot that ended last July.
