Work has started on a building to house a Human Biomaterials Resource Centre. The licensed human tissue bank at the University of Birmingham will contain samples from patients with a variety of diseases from hospitals across the West Midlands. These will form a vital resource for scientists engaged in clinical research, and should contribute to the creation of better diagnostic tools and drug therapies.
