The national conservatoire of Wales, whose alumni include actor Sir Anthony Hopkins, has announced plans for a £22.5 million building development. The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, which in 2006 became part of the University of Glamorgan, has already secured 80 per cent of the necessary funding, including £10 million from the Welsh Assembly Government. It will launch a fundraising programme this autumn, and aims to start building work early in 2009. The new facilities will include a recital hall, a theatre, a purpose-built drama rehearsal space and an arcade to exhibit design work.
