College students found themselves in unexpected situations during a university open day. An Aimhigher initiative to raise awareness of higher education and the career options available to college-goers saw more than 100 young people visit the Hertfordshire Intensive Care and Emergency Simulation Centre at the University of Hertfordshire. Scenarios re-enacted for the visitors included a scuba-diving accident and a woman in premature labour. Each scenario was followed by a discussion about the day-to-day roles of healthcare professionals, and the career opportunities that higher education could provide.
