Researchers have developed a natural microbial vapour that has proved to be effective against a large range of bacteria, including some hospital-acquired infections such as C. difficile. Katie Fisher, a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Northampton's School of Health, made the discovery when working on her PhD research project. With the help of the university's Knowledge Exchange department, a patent has been filed on the antimicrobial vapour.
