A university lecturer refereed American football's equivalent of the Uefa Cup final in Berlin last week. Jim Briggs juggles lecturing in computing at the University of Portsmouth with his other passion, refereeing American football. He was selected to referee the European Federation of American Football Cup final from a pool of 98 candidates. The cup pits some of Europe's top-division American football clubs against each other. The final on 19 July saw Germany's Berlin Adler meet Italy's Parma Panthers.
