A £4.5 million centre for chemical analysis has been opened. The centre, based in the School of Chemistry, Food and Pharmacy at the University of Reading, will focus on small molecule research. David Garner, president of the Royal Society of Chemistry, said the university was to be congratulated for its "vision and commitment" in investing a significant amount in the field. The facility has five groups of scientific instruments, covering nuclear-magnetic resonance, thermal analysis, molecular spectroscopy, plus X-ray and mass spectrometry.
