A centre of excellence for bone research has been opened by the University of Sheffield. The Mellanby Centre for Bone Research, named after the late Sheffield academic Sir Edward Mellanby, will undertake bone research from "bench to bedside", studying diseases such as osteoporosis, bone cancer in adults and brittle bone disease in children. The funding to establish the centre includes a £1 million donation from the Wolfson Foundation and more than £300,000 from university alumni.
