The introduction of visa renewal fees of up to £250 for overseas students by the Home Office "contradicts the government's efforts to attract more bright young people from other continents to study in Britain", Lord William Wallace of Saltaire, Liberal Democrat peer and professor of international relations at the London School of Economics, told the House of Lords this week.
