The Welsh Institute for Research into Cooperatives is being established at the University of Wales Institute.
The institute aims to achieve sustainable economic growth in deprived areas. It will work with industry and local communities to foster employee-owned businesses. Its role model is Tower Colliery, the last deep mine in South Wales, which is owned by the miners.
