The University Heads of the Valleys Institute, a project to plug gaps in higher education provision across Wales, has been launched. The institute is formed by a partnership between the University of Wales, Newport, the University of Glamorgan and local further education colleges. By 2015, the university will provide the equivalent of 4,000 full-time student places. The institute is a key part of the Welsh Assembly Government's plan to increase level four qualifications in the region. It will focus on technology, green skills and sustainability, community development, creative industries and business.
