Higher education is as important to the Welsh economy as steel, banking or finance, says a report from the University of Wales, Cardiff. HE directly employs 14,000 people and supports a further 10,500 jobs across the entire economy. Its Pounds 487 million total expenditure is equivalent to 2.1 per cent of the Welsh gross domestic product.
