Trade unions in the old universities launched a campaign this week to overturn a freeze on the 1993 London weighting allowance imposed by vice chancellors. The unions say that backdating the payments should not cost more than Pounds 50 per capita per annum. Unison has put in a claim for Pounds 20 more a week, and other unions are said to be in line with this.
