Woodhead report outlines weaknesses

Weaknesses in teacher-training provision have been highlighted by the chief inspector of schools in his annual report.

Chris Woodhead said in a review of teacher training for secondary education that there were problems with "accuracy and consistency" in the assessment of trainees against new standards for qualified teacher status and that too many trainee teachers were not competent to assess student progress.
