Australia will have its 37th public university in 1999 following a decision by the Federal and Queensland governments to give the Sunshine Coast University College full status as a member of the Unified National System of higher education. The college was founded in 1994 in one of Australia's major growth areas. It is currently affiliated with the Queensland University of Technology.
